Sherman Professor of Government Philip Klinkner and Jesse Stinebring ’13 presented a paper at the Southern Political Science Association meeting held Jan. 6-8, in New Orleans. “Black, White, and Green: Race and Campaign Spending in the 2008 Election” examines the role of race resentment in recent elections and whether Barack Obama’s campaign spending advantage impacted the outcome of the 2008 presidential election.

  • Co-ed a cappella group Duelly Noted has embarked on its first winter tour. The tour began on January 6 with a joint concert with the Buffers at Union College and then heads to Northeast Pennsylvania on the 7th to sing for Stroudsburg High School, Nate Taylor's ’11 alma mater, and then to Blair Academy, Mike Breslin's ’13 alma mater. The 17-member group is also planning to sing in New York City before returning to Hamilton on Jan. 10 for the beginning of choir musical rehearsals.

  • Visiting Assistant Professor of Art Cynthia Tower engaged a few students in a project to transform the snow-covered tables in the KJ/McEwen courtyard into a confectionery illusion. Artists included Andrew Quinney '11, Andrea Wrobel '13, Rem Myers ’11, Julia Wilber '11, Amanda Pichardo '14 and Michael Arroyo '14.

  • Students from the Hamilton Mathletics team participated on Dec. 4 in the nationwide William Lowell Putnam mathematics competition. With 13 students taking part, it was one of the strongest turnouts in Hamilton's history.

  • Approximately once a month, a small but dedicated group of students collaborates on a survey for Hamilton’s student body. HamPoll, Hamilton’s polling organization, has emailed out surveys about topics ranging from dining hall food to Swine Flu to political opinions. The results of these surveys allow students to learn more about the diversity of opinions that surround them, as well as the trends in opinions or habits they engage in.
