Director and Curator of Special Collections and Archives Christian Goodwillie presented an invited lecture during a celebratory conference marking the 250th anniversary of the Sabbathday Lake Shakers’ arrival in North America.

Director and Curator of Special Collections and Archives Christian Goodwillie recently published a book, Richard McNemar: Frontier Heretic and Shaker Apostle (Indiana University Press).

In 2019, a team of Hamilton College staff and students traveled to the island of Nevis, birthplace of the College’s namesake Alexander Hamilton, to collaborate with staff members from the Nevis Historical and Conservation Society.  A team returned in June to continue work on the project.

From anarchist periodicals of the 1920s to a 16th century copy of Aesop’s Fables to paintings of 19th century everyday life in China, Hamilton’s Special Collections is a trove of fascinating publications and ephemera. More importantly it is a repository of primary source material for students and faculty to conduct research.

In 2019, Director and Curator of Special Collections and Archives Christian Goodwillie and Photography and Digital Imagery Specialist Marianita Peaslee visited Nevis, Alexander Hamilton’s birthplace, with three students to begin the process of digitizing historical documents. The manuscripts are now available online.

In January, three Hamilton students abandoned the frosty Upstate New York winter for the tropical climate of Nevis, the Caribbean birthplace of the College’s namesake Alexander Hamilton.
