During the spring semester, 27 Hamilton students taught Spanish to students at Clinton Elementary School. The Hamilton students participated in a training workshop in order to learn about teaching methods and to discuss lesson plans. The program began in February and continued through the end of the semester.

An article co-authored by Visiting Assistant Professor of Geosciences Carolyn Dash was recently published in the journal Landscape Ecology. “Land cover influences boreal-forest fire responses to climate change: geospatial analysis of historical records from Alaska” was written with Jennifer Fraterrigo and Feng Sheng Hu of the University of Illinois.

Associate Professor of Chemistry Adam Van Wynsberghe presented an invited seminar titled “Development of a multi-scale sampling methodology to examine the favored ligand binding pathways of influenza neuraminidase” at Union College on May 12.

Gerard Pozzi ’18 has been awarded a Coccia Foundation Scholarship for study abroad in Italy. Established in 1994, the Coccia Foundation is dedicated to the preservation and celebration of Italian culture, with a particular emphasis on promoting the rich Italian cultural heritage among younger generations at the college level.

President Joan Stewart opened Hamilton’s 32nd employee service recognition luncheon on May 16 in Commons Dining Hall with a word of thanks to all employees. “It’s you who make this Hamilton...I can’t thank you enough.”

The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation has awarded a one-time, $40,000 grant to Hamilton College, in collaboration with the College of Wooster, to support the second Institute for Liberal Arts Digital Scholarship (ILiADS.org) conference.

Participants of the Spring 2016 New York City (NYC) program had opportunity to attend a performance of La Bohème at the Metropolitan Opera on April 29. For many, it was the first time to experience a live operatic production. La Bohème is a timeless love story set in Paris in the 1830s.

Visiting Assistant Professor of Biology Simon Coppard recently published an article titled “A new genus of mellitid sand dollar (Echinoidea: Mellitidae) from the eastern Pacific coast of the Americas” in the journal Zootaxa.

The 2016 commencement ceremony will take place Sunday, May 22, at 10:15 a.m., in the Margaret Bundy Scott Field House.  Peter Thiel, co-founder of worldwide online payments system PayPal, will deliver the Commencement address.

The Arthur Levitt Public Affairs Center recently announced the 2016 Levitt Summer Research Fellows. To enhance student research around issues of public affairs, the Levitt Center funds student-faculty research through its Levitt Research Fellows Program. The program is open to rising juniors and seniors who wish to spend the summer working in collaboration with a faculty member on an issue related to public affairs.
