An exhibit featuring 40 intaglio works by members of the Atelier Four is on display through Feb. 3, in the Foreman Gallery at Hartwick College’s Anderson Center for the Arts. The Atelier Four is William R. Keenan Professor of Art Bruce Muirhead, Professor of Art and Curator of the Hamilton Collects Program William Salzillo and artists Amy Georgia Buchholz ’80 and Jake Muirhead ’86.

On Saturday, Jan. 22, more than 120 students gathered for Hamilton’s 13th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Service Day. The community service event, run by the Hamilton Association for Volunteering, Outreach and Charity, or HAVOC, sent students to a wide variety of locations across the Utica area, from the Kirkland Town Library to Lutheran Home for the elderly to the Rome Humane Society.

Hamilton College’s Emerson Gallery will host an opening reception on Wednesday, Jan. 26, at 4:15 pm for three new exhibits featuring eccentric views of men and women in photography, drawing, and painting. Rome native John Sonsini will present a gallery conversation sponsored by the art department. The reception and program are free and open to the public.

An article by Hong Gang Jin, the William R. Kenan Professor of East Asian Languages and Literature, has been published in Journal of Chinese Teaching in the World (SJHYJX), 2011, Vol. 25:1, pp.78-98. The article is titled "Ten Methodological Principles of Modern Language Teaching."

Teaching Fellow in Hispanic Studies and Fulbright Scholar María Gabriela Portal discussed her first semester experience in a presentation titled “My First Three Months on the Hill,” at the Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistants (FLTA) Conference held December 8-11, in Washington, D.C.

Rotary International has named John Hewko '79, an attorney with extensive international experience in both the private and public sectors, to be the global humanitarian service organization's new top executive, serving as its general secretary. The appointment is effective on July 1.

In the sense that every person has a responsibility and an obligation to contribute toward the safety of community, said Drexel University's Dr. John Rich, we are all involved in public health. Dr. Rich has worked to expose the post-traumatic hardships faced by young black men who have fallen victim to violence in their communities. On Jan. 20, Dr. Rich presented a lecture, “Hearing, Humanizing and Healing: Practicing Nonviolence in Public Health,” as part of Hamilton’s Martin Luther King, Jr. commemorative events.

Professor of Mathematics Dick Bedient served as moderator for the debate "Derivative vs. Integral: The final showdown” during the Joint Meetings of the American Mathematical Society and the Mathematical Association of America held Jan. 6-9, in New Orleans.

A memorial service for Alex Paganelli ’12 will take place on Monday, Jan. 31, at noon, in the Chapel. He died on Dec. 19 as a result of injuries sustained in a car accident near his home outside Boston.

Edward North Professor of Classics Barbara Gold gave a paper at the annual meeting of the American Philological Association in San Antonio on Jan. 8. Her paper, "Teaching Ancient Comedy: Race Matters," was part of a panel on "Teaching Uncomfortable Subjects in the Classics Classroom."
