John McEnroe, the John and Anne Fischer Professor of Fine Arts, recently presented a paper at an international conference on Greek architecture in Athens, Greece.

Hamilton College’s place in Olympic history recently was resurrected by none other than Stan Fischler, the highly regarded analyst known as “The Hockey Maven.”

It’s no secret that Hamilton students tend to keep busy, balancing extracurricular activities and academic work. Many have found a good way to let off some steam is through various manners of performing. Rehearsal rooms and performance spaces around campus are filled into the wee hours of the morning as students rehearse singing, dancing and other performances. In celebration of these talented student performers, we have compiled a brief round-up of the various performance arts groups on the Hill.

Barbara Gold, the Edward North Professor of Classics, published an article titled “Simone Weil: Receiving the Iliad” in Women Classical Scholars: Unsealing the Fountain from the Renaissance to Jacqueline de Romilly.

In an event called “The Future of Making” on Nov. 12, students were led by Educational Technologist Kyle Burnham ’15 and electronic artist Kathleen McDermott in discussing different ways in which humans can interact with their body, technology and environment. The event featured a student panel focused on the importance of “making and doing,” as well as a wearable technology workshop where participants could sew working technology into their clothing.

Continental Divide, by Maurice Isserman, the Publius Virgilius Rogers Professor of American History, was recently awarded honorable mention in the outdoor literature category of the 2016 National Outdoor Book Awards (NOBA).

Associate Professor of History John Eldevik delivered a paper titled “The Strange Journeys of Thiemo of Salzburg: Exile, Martyrdom and Memory” at the annual meeting of the Haskins Society held Nov. 3-5 at Carleton College.

Joshua Rothstein ’19 is a member of the Campus Activities Executive Board, where he acts as concerts apprentice. helping CAB’s concert coordinator with booking and running shows. Josh had the opportunity to work with CAB’s fall concert, The Mowgli’s, and provided this behind-the-scenes look at running the show.

Assistant Professor of History Celeste Day Moore recently traveled to Dakar, Senegal, to participate in Cinquantenaire du 1er Festival Mondial des Arts Nègres.

Students in Hamilton’s Academic Year in Spain (HCAYS) program visited Barcelona Nov. 4-6. The students explored the city and experienced firsthand its strong sense of identity and uniqueness.
