After Kristin Stenerson walked across the stage as a member of Hamilton’s Bicentennial class, she walked into her new position as a strategy and operations consultant for Deloitte, one of the world’s largest professional service employers. For Stenerson, a mathematics and economics major, the job at Deloitte is the culmination of years of hard work both inside and outside the classroom.

Although she’s only a rising junior, Lauren Lanzotti ’14 already has a clear idea of where her academic path will take her. After studying lighting design at Hamilton for the past two years, she is exploring four possible career option, one through an internship this summer at Limelight Productions.

Visiting Assistant Professor of Theatre Andrew Holland first had the idea to create a theatrical piece with a focus on architecture after reading about a Berlin play which took inspiration from the Bauhaus architecture of the planned community at which it was performed. Holland brainstormed for locations to conduct a similar play at Hamilton College with Professor of Theatre Carole Bellini-Sharp, and the two decided the perfect location would be the Theodore Roosevelt Elementary School in the Cornhill section of Utica.

Associate Professor of Government Sharon Rivera and Scholar-in-Residence David Rivera recently published an article titled “El’tsin, Putin i prezidentskaya vlast’” (“Yeltsin, Putin, and Presidential Power”) in Politicheskie issledovaniya, or POLIS, (“Political Research”), No. 3 (2012): 19-29.

Whenever a financial institution nears bankruptcy and requests federal bailout funds, it often claims to be “too big to fail.” Unlike the Titanic’s designers who believed that she was too big to physically sink, financial executives hold no illusions about their firms’ lack of invincibility.

"Witness to an Antarctic Meltdown - Scientists Trek to Collapsing Glaciers to Assess Antarctica’s Meltdown and Sea-Level Rise," an article that appeared in the Scientific American’s July issue, focused on research performed during the 2010 LARISSA (LARsen Ice Shelf System, Antarctica) expedition for which Hamilton Geosciences Professor Eugene Domack served as Principal Investigator. Writer Douglas Fox, who accompanied the 30 scientists on the two-month expedition, described the researchers’ efforts to determine how fast the continent is melting and what that might mean for sea-level rise.

Over the past several decades, psychologists have placed a growing level of importance on bringing up children with high self-esteem, but according to the research of Beril Esen ’13, Susannah Parkin ’13 and Jose Mendez ’14, a person’s level of self-esteem is not always what it appears to be.

Professor of Economics Erol Balkan presented a paper titled “Occupy Wall Street!” on July 7 in an international symposium at Yildiz Technical University, Besiktas in Istanbul, Turkey. The symposium, “Veblen, Capitalism and Possibilities for a Rational Economic Order,” focused on central features of Veblen’s thought.

John McEnroe, The John and Anne Fischer Professor of Fine Arts, delivered a paper on the final phase of the Minoan palace at Knossos (Crete) at an international colloquium in Athens on June 22. The colloquium was organized by the Canadian Institute in Greece and held at the Italian School of Archaeology in Athens.

Catherine Gold ’14 took advantage of the Career Center’s HamiltonExplore career shadowing program in January by spending a day with Meg Harrison ’91, patient services manager at the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in New York City. Now, six months later Gold is a Levitt Public Service Intern there, thanks in large part to the connection she made through HamiltonExplore.
