Matthew Todd Stinner

Matthew Todd Stinner '89

Apr. 12, 1967-Aug. 5, 2020

Matthew Todd Stinner ’89 had a passion for fitness and a keen business sense. He combined the two into a successful venture, Koko FitClub.

Born on April 12, 1967, and raised in Castleton, N.Y., Stinner graduated from Maple Hill High School. He applied the skills he learned at Hamilton as an economics major at his first job at Fidelity Investments, where he worked as manager of ERISA compliance while earning his degree at Boston College Law School.

Stinner then spent six years at Arthur Anderson in the firm’s human capital practice. There he developed and implemented recruitment programs, compensation and benefits plans, and training and development programs for clients. After a brief stint as a principal at Mercer Human Resource Consulting, he joined Pearl Meyer & Partners as a senior managing director.

In 2012, Stinner decided to make a career change. He became owner of Sparkstin Fitness Holdings, through which he owned and developed multiple Koko FitClub franchises. At the time he described the company as “the first and only automated personal training studio that blends technology, world-class personal training, and hospitality to create a lifelong, affordable, and efficient fitness solution for everyone at all fitness levels.”

According to an Aug. 16, 2012, article in the Hudson Sun, Stinner became interested in pursuing the business venture after his own experience with personal fitness.

“I had been a lawyer for 20 years and really wanted to do something different. I had gone through a personal lifestyle change as far as losing a lot of weight and getting blood pressure under control and getting in shape,” he told the Sun. “I saw how hard it was for me to do and for other people to do, and I got passionate about fitness.”

Stinner was also passionate about his family. He loved spending time with his wife, Jennifer, and his three children. They enjoyed summers on Sunrise Lake in New Hampshire, cheering for the Patriots, and board games. He also found time to work on projects around the house and in his garden, a published obituary said.

Stinner, of Marlborough, Mass., died on Aug. 5, 2020, at the age of 53. In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by a sister and nephew, who lovingly called him “Uncle Baldy.”
