Editorial Style Guide
Hamilton’s Editorial Style Guide was developed by the Communications and Marketing Office to assist campus colleagues who write and prepare College messages. The goal is to achieve a consistent, standardized style throughout our communications, both print and electronic.
The Communications Office uses the Associated Press (AP) Stylebook as its primary style reference, and, as a result, many of guidelines in this directory reflect rules of that resource. This guide is not intended to be comprehensive. It addresses some of the more troublesome areas, as well as instances where Hamilton College style supersedes AP style.
Please note that style for academic writing may differ from this guide. Students preparing papers for classes should consult the Writing Center’s Style Sheet.
