Editorial Style Guide
Hamilton’s Editorial Style Guide was developed by the Communications Office to assist campus colleagues who write and prepare College messages. The goal is to achieve a consistent, standardized style throughout our communications, both print and electronic.
The Communications Office uses the Associated Press (AP) Stylebook as its primary style reference. As a result, this guide is not intended to be comprehensive. It addresses some of the more troublesome areas, as well as instances where Hamilton College style supersedes AP style.
Please note that style for academic writing may differ from this guide. Students preparing papers for classes should consult Essentials of Writing: The Hamilton College Style Sheet.
