In “The News and Information Future: It’s Not All Pandas and Puppies!” one family showed just how much the news media has changed not only between two generations but in the past decade. The Oct. 29 lecture was the first Spectator’s three-part journalism series, “SpecSpeak.”

Hamilton a capella group The Buffers performed in the 33rd annual John Lennon Tribute concert before a sold-out crowd at Symphony Space on Manhattan’s Upper West Side on Dec. 6. The Lennon Tribute, co-sponsored by Theatre Within and Music Without Borders, began in 1981 as a small gathering of artists who wished to honor the memory of the musical icon, and has since grown into a major charity event for the Spirit Foundation, which Lennon and Yoko Ono founded in 1978.

Alumnus Eric Kuhn ’09, head of social media at United Talent Agency, appeared on Bloomberg TV on a segment titled “Is Twitter Trying to Bring Back Must See TV?” Kuhn’s biography, including his Hamilton education, appeared prominently on screen.

Hamilton alumnus Luvuyo Mandela ’09 returned to the Hill on Oct. 29 to speak about his work as a social entrepreneur in South Africa. His former philosophy professor, A. Todd Franklin, introduced Mandela and thanked him for agreeing to speak to the small gathering, heavily composed of students in Franklin’s “Philosophy of Race, Gender and Culture” course.

Jen Kleindienst ’09 returned to Hamilton on Oct. 21 to speak to the community about her career in environmental activism and give advice to those interested in the campus sustainability movement.

Jen Kleindienst ’09, sustainability coordinator at Wesleyan University, will present a lecture titled “Challenges and Successes of Promoting Campus Sustainability,” on Monday, Oct. 21, at 7:30 p.m., in the Red Pit, KJ.  Her lecture, part of the Arthur Levitt Public Affairs Center Fall 2013 speaker series, is free and open to the public.

2nd Lieutenant Phillip Hoying ’09 recently won the title of “Best Junior Officer” in the U.S. Army Europe's Best Junior Officer Competition held in Grafenwöh, Germany this past August. This competition is a weeklong training event that shows the best captains and lieutenants in Army units across Europe.

“Good News, Bad News, and Consumer Confidence,” by Greg Casey ’09 and Henry Platt Bristol Professor of Economics of Ann Owen, was published in the March issue of Social Science Quarterly.
