  • Andrew Gibeley ’16 has been selected to travel to Israel this summer by the Taglit-Birthright Israel project. Gibeley, a creative writing major at Hamilton, will take part in a free, 10-day tour of Israel funded by the project.

  • History major John Boudreau ’14 presented a paper titled “Savages and Indians: European Perceptions of Native Americans in the Canadian Fur Trade 1754-1819” at the New York State Upper Regional Conference of Phi Alpha Theta, the history honor society, at SUNY Oneonta on April 12. The faculty panel at the conference selected Boudreau’s paper as one of the six best presented.

Tifft ’14, a senior in the Geosciences Department, presented a poster titled “A Reference Collection of Middle Devonian, Upper Hamilton Group Brachiopods from the Geer Road Quarry in Eaton, New York” at the 49th Annual Meeting of the Geological Society of America - Northeastern Section.Tifft's work in paleontology was presented as a poster in the Geologic Education session and his abstract was published in GSA Abstracts with Programs Vol. 46, No. 2.

  • Huy Ho ’15 and Mandy Lin (Wong) ’15 have been awarded Gilman International Scholarship Program awards for undergraduate study abroad. Ho plans to study in Vietnam through the School for International Training (SIT) and Lin will study in Denmark through the Danish Institute of Study Abroad, Copenhagen.

  • Nathaniel Livingston ’14 and Alyson Raynor ’14, candidates for May graduation from Hamilton, have been awarded prestigious Thomas J. Watson Fellowships for 2014-15. Livingston’s project is titled “Performing Culture: Contemporary Expressions of Oral and Musical Traditions,” and  Raynor’s is “The Path of Rehabilitation and Reintegration: Exploring the Lives of Traumatic Brain Injury Survivors.”

  • Hamilton’s curling team finished the 2013-2014 season ranked 16th in U.S. College Curling Merit Point Standings, thus qualifying for Nationals which will be held March 14-16 in Blaine, Minn. Hamilton Team 1 will be competing against 15 other teams from all over the country. Team 1 members representing Hamilton are captain Meghan Doherty ’14, Tara Huggins ’14, Josh Devinney ’15 and Jake Davidson ’15.

  • Students in the Hamilton College Program in Washington, D.C., met on Feb. 12 with Ted Piccone, the acting vice president and director of the foreign policy program at the Brookings Institution, for an in-depth discussion of U.S. democracy promotion. The Brookings Institution is a highly respected, private, nonprofit organization devoted to independent research and innovative policy solutions.

  • Sixteen members of Hamilton’s Black Latin Student Union (BLSU) attended the 19th annual Black Solidarity Conference, held at Yale University on Feb. 13 to 16. This year’s topic was “Rooted: The Odyssey of Black Art,” which explored the diversity of art mediums in their presentation of black culture and in their propagation and/or prevention of racism and stereotyping of the black community.
