  • Hamilton Program in New York City students had the opportunity to visit the vibrant studio of celebrated New York painter and sculptor Hunt Slonem.  The event featured a reception with alumni organized by Hamilton trustee Adrienne Ruger Conzelman ’92.

  • Assistant Professor of Physics Kate Jones-Smith led a gallery talk and discussion on the mathematical and scientific concepts reflected in the Wellin Museum’s current exhibition Alyson Shotz: Force of Nature. The Feb. 19 talk explored how different practical and theoretical elements of math and science apply to Shotz’s work on display, many of which are sculptures named after scientific and mathematical terminology.

  • A group of Hamilton students in the Sign Language and Deaf Culture class and students from New York State School for the Deaf (NYSSD) met on Tuesday, Oct. 21, at the Wellin Museum of Art to view and discuss various pieces of art. The Hamilton students were fulfilling a class assignment for their course taught by Lecturer in the Education Studies Program Vicky Allen.

  • The Ruth and Elmer Wellin Museum of Art at Hamilton will host a Wellin Kids: Summer Celebration on Friday, June 20, from 2 to 3 p.m., at the museum on College Hill Road. The event will feature chalk drawing on the museum terrace and free ice cream. This summer celebration is free and open to the public.

  • Wellin Museum of Art Associate Director and Curator Susanna White presented on a panel about visible storage as classroom at the annual meeting of the Association of Academic Museums and Galleries in Seattle on May 17. Her paper was titled "A Museum Turned Inside Out: The Ruth and Elmer Wellin Museum of Art at Hamilton College."

  • When celebrated Indian street photographer Pranlal K. Patel died in January at the age of 104, he left behind an impressive legacy and 70 years worth of works. An exhibit at the Ruth and Elmer Wellin Museum of Art has brought new life to some of the artist’s images from the early twentieth century.

  • The Ruth and Elmer Wellin Museum of Art will host a screening of artist/photographer Alec Soth’s Somewhere to Disappear, on Thursday, April 3, 4:15 p.m. in the Overlook in the Wellin Museum. The screening is free and open to the public.

  • Tracy L. Adler, director of the Ruth and Elmer Wellin Museum of Art, welcomed New York City alumni for a talk with artist Casey Ruble on March 7 at Volta NY. Ruble’s work was included in the museum’s fall exhibition A Sense of Place, which was curated by Adler.

  • Tracy Adler, director of the Ruth and Elmer Wellin Museum of Art, moderated an ArtTable panel discussion on “The Art and Science of Museum Engagement” on Feb. 14 in Chicago. The event was part of the College Art Association’s (CAA) annual conference.
