Associate Professor of Theatre Mark Cryer has roles in two upcoming films and a play opening in March in Syracuse.

Associate Professor of Theatre Mark Cryer will play the role of Gloucester in the Saratoga Shakespeare Company’s production of King Lear.

The classic American musical receives an update with the Theatre Department’s production. Set in 2018 Bronx, New York, five months after hurricane Maria, this timeless musical tells a story of love, of otherness and street gangs.

The Hamilton College Theatre Department announces the spring production, Antigonick, Anne Carson’s stunning translation of Sophokles’ luminous and disturbing tragedy, given entirely fresh language and new life. Professor of Theatre Mark Cryer directs the play, modern retelling of the Greek tragedy set in the Oval Office 2017, and explores kakocracy - rule or government by the worst of the people, authoritarianism, misogyny, hubris.

Associate Professor of Theatre Mark Cryer and Kiana Sosa ’15 are off to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe to perform The Mountaintop, that debuted at Hamilton on Martin Luther King Jr. Day in January. Sosa and Cryer will be performing the show Aug. 8  through 22nd.

Associate Professor of Theatre Mark Cryer recently completed a certificate program for the Meisner Acting Technique. The program was held over two summers at the True Acting Institute in Salem, Ore.

Associate Professor of Theatre Mark Cryer appears in a production of Shakespeare’s The Merry Wives of Windsor. Also, he recently recently attended the True Acting program at Willamette University.

Associate Professor of Theatre Mark Cryer is among members of the Hamilton community who are in Washington, D.C. for President Barack Obama’s inauguration today.  The Hamilton College Democrats left for Washington at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 20, and arrived today at 4 a.m.  Jack Cartwright ’15  is one of the students there to watch the inauguration with his father, Matt Cartwright ’83, a new member of Congress representing Pennsylvania’s 17th district.

Associate Professor of Theatre Mark Cryer presented “Acting Exercises for Day One” on Aug. 3 at the Association of Theatre in Higher Education (ATHE) Conference in Washington, D.C.

Societal pressures shape the way in which many young people develop into adulthood. In fact, cultural norms are so ubiquitous that there are few examples of people who truly break the mold. Kadahj Bennett ’12, an Emerson Summer Grant recipient, is working with Associate Professor of Theater Mark Cryer to create an interdisciplinary, innovative street theater performance piece, Letters to the Shadows in the Sky, on the male black identity in modern society.
