A forthcoming article in the Sociology of Religion titled "The Unobtrusive Tactics of Religious Movements," by Visiting Assistant Professor of Sociology Jaime Kucinskas,   is available through advance access.  The article discusses how religious movements build upon and through secular institutions to expand their influence.

The Class of 2018’s Leadership Experience And Preparation (LEAP) program’s 12th and final meeting took place on Nov. 16. Sixteen Hamilton first-year students along with four LEAP mentors, gathered in a KJ classroom to escape the cold, Clinton November day, and discuss what goes into making an effective leader.

Janet Simons, co-director of the Digital Humanities Initiative (DHi), and Abhishek Amar, assistant professor of religious studies, gave invited presentations on Nov. 13 at Vassar College. Their audience included faculty, librarians and academic technologists.

Assistant Professor of Physics Kate Jones-Smith presented “Fractals and the Drip Paintings of Jackson Pollock” on Nov. 18 at Ithaca College in Ithaca, N.Y. Her talk was part of the college’s Physics Fall Seminar Series.

Professor of English and Creative Writing Doran Larson was invited to serve as respondent on a panel dedicated to Fourth City: Essays from the Prison in America at the Midwest Modern Language Association (M/MLA) Conference held Nov. 13-16 in Detroit.

A true passion for knowledge is of growing scarcity in the world today.  Such a passion extends beyond the simple desire to learn; it is a hunger to experience as well as comprehension, to grow in oneself and aid others in their journey. For Senior Fellow Robert Huben ’15, it is a passion he understands very well.

A favorable review of Assistant Professor of East Asian Languages and Literatures Zhuoyi Wang’s book Revolutionary Cycles in Chinese Cinema, 1951-1979 recently appeared on Viewfinder, the journal of British Universities Film & Video Council. The book was published in July by Palgrave Macmillan.

Officials at the Clinton Global Initiative University (CGI U) have recently selected Tsion Tesfaye ’16 to attend their annual meeting in recognition of her innovative project Youth for Ethiopia. It will take place in Miami in March.

Visiting Assistant Professor of Classics Jesse Weiner recently presented at the annual meeting of the Pacific Ancient and Modern Language Association in Riverside, Calif., and published a paper in the International Journal of the Classical Tradition.

Werewere-Liking, an artist and philanthropist from the Ivory Coast, will visit Hamilton on Nov. 19 and 20.  She will hold a workshop on Hidjingo, a Ki-Yi Mbock healing dance on Wednesday, Nov. 19, at 7 p.m., in the Blood Fitness Center Dance Studio, and will give a talk, “Profession: ‘Woman.’ Lessons learned from grandma for action in modern times” on Thursday, Nov. 20, at 4:10 p.m., in the Kennedy Auditorium, Taylor Science Center.  Both events are free and open to the public.
