Adam Evertz '17 is delving into the limits of human verbal interaction this summer with a research project titled "Failures of Language: Literature and the Indescribable." Evertz is undertaking this research with funding through an Emerson Summer Cooperative Research Award, and under the advisement of The Carolyn C. and David M. Ellis '38 Distinguished Teaching Professor of Comparative Literature, Peter Rabinowitz. 

Shea Patrick ’16 is exploring inter-governmental work this summer as an intern for the Public Affairs section of the U.S. Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Patrick’s internship is supported through the Career Center’s Summer Internship Fund.

Jake Meserve Blount ’17 is spending his summer pursuing a fieldwork project under the advisement of Professor of Music Lydia Hamessley titled “Fiddles in the North Country: Uncovering the Ithaca Sound.” Blount’s research is funded through an Emerson Foundation Grant.

Professor of Mathematics Debra Boutin gave a research talk titled "Determining and Distinguishing Cartesian Products" at the 8th Slovenian Graph Theory Conference at Kranjska Gora, Slovenia, held June 21-27.

Glynis Asu, Lisa Forrest and Tanapat (Ice) Treyanurak ’17 discussed the LITS Peer Research Tutor program during a conference on “The Art of Librarianship” presented last month by the SUNY Librarians Association.

Associate Professor of Art History Stephen J. Goldberg presented a paper titled “Narrativity Without Narrative: Topoi and the Prefiguration of Visual Narrativity in Chinese Pictorial Art” on June 23 during the Association for Asian Studies-in-Asia Conference at the Academia Sinica in Taipei, Taiwan.

Assistant Professor of Philosophy Russell Marcus recently published his first book, Autonomy Platonism and the Indispensability Argument. In it, Marcus examined autonomy platonism and indispensability platonism and then defended a third view – intuition-based autonomy platonism.

Leah Pranschke ’17 is spending her summer in Manhattan in an internship with HeadCount, a non-partisan, not-for-profit organization that seeks to engage the music community in politics and social activism. HeadCount’s primary function is voter registration, which it achieves through the construction of voter registration booths at concerts throughout the country in cooperation with a constantly expanding list of major musicians and artists.

Though common perception may hold that charity and for-profit business stand opposed to one another, Eli Shakun ’16 is spending his summer in an internship at the Weinstein Carnegie Philanthropic Group (WCPG) in New York City, a firm whose business model challenges that perception.

Derek Jones, the Irma M. and Robert D. Morris Professor of Economics, presented a paper titled “Complementarities between employee involvement and financial participation -Evidence from Finland” on June 23 at the Beyster Symposium at the University of California, San Diego.
