Dr. Cornel West, university professor, philosopher and influential intellectual, will present a lecture on Friday, March 8, at 5 p.m., in Wellin Hall, Schambach Center for the Performing Arts. The lecture will focus on the role of youth and pop culture in creating a democratic society. This lecture is sponsored by the Voices of Color Lecture Series, which honors C. Christine Johnson, former director of the Hamilton College HEOP Program.

Clothing constructed of everything from banana peels and straws to garbage bags and recyclable bottles hit the runway as the Recycling Task Force hosted Hamilton’s first “Trashion Show” on March 3. The show was part of Recyclemania, an eight-week program that encourages student to reevaluate their waste and improve recycling.

Members of the Hamilton community again supported the annual America's Greatest Heart Run and Walk, held this year on March 2 in Utica. Donations are still being counted but Hamilton participants were among the 7,799 walkers and runners who raised about $1.1 million for the American Heart Association.

In a lecture on March 5 Sol M. Linowitz Professor of International Affairs Karl F. Inderfurth outlined how and why India may now be poised to become the world’s next great superpower.

Despite a weekend full of committee meetings, members of the Hamilton Board of Trustees still found many opportunities to engage one-on-one and collectively with students, faculty and staff during the Board's quarterly meeting March 1-2 in Clinton. Here are a few occasions of those occasions.

Mary O’Neill, academic support coordinator and director of the Quantitative Literacy Center, presented a paper on Jan. 10 at the Joint Math Meetings of the Mathematical Association of America and the American Mathematical Society (JMM) in San Diego.

Asle Toje, research director for the Norwegian Nobel Institute, will present a lecture titled “The Nobel Peace Prize and the EU,” on Thursday, March 7, at 7:30 p.m., in the Bradford Auditorium, KJ. His lecture is sponsored by the Hamilton Government department and is free and open to the public.

This past weekend, Hamilton College held a series of events to kick off its spring social entrepreneurship programming.  The Levitt Center – in conjunction with the Career Center and the COOP – sponsored various talks and information sessions to get students thinking about social innovation.

Earl E. Devaney, inspector general for the Department of the Interior, will deliver a lecture titled “How to Protect $800,000,000,000 in Public Spending: Oversight of the Stimulus Package,” on Thursday, March 7, at 4:30 p.m., in the Dwight Lounge in the Bristol Center at Hamilton. His lecture is part of the Arthur Levitt Public Affairs Center’s Security program and is free and open to the public.

Lolita Buckner Inniss, the Elihu Root Peace Fund Visiting Professor of Women’s Studies, presented a lecture titled “James C. Johnson and the Princeton Fugitive Slave Case” on Feb. 25 at Princeton University.
