Students at Hamilton College typically have a vast selection of possible courses and majors. One may wonder, however, how Hamilton students succeed in the business world without obtaining a degree in business. Matt Nudell '11 proves that Hamilton prepared him well to launch a business with fellow entrepreneurs.

The Hamilton students in NYC attended a lecture by renowned economist Jeffrey Sachs titled “The Price of Civilization: Reawakening American Virtue and Prosperity” on Oct. 25.  Sachs is the Quetelet Professor of Sustainable Development, professor of health policy and management, and director of the Earth Institute at Columbia University, and special advisor the U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

Associate Professor of French Joseph Mwantuali was recently invited to the International Colloquium on African Francophone Literature at the University of South Africa (UNISA) where he was honored for creativity and originality in his fiction work.

The Colorado River is one of the United States’ most impressive rivers. At 1,450 miles long, the river drains almost 250,000 square miles—10 percent of the United States—down the spine of the Continental Divide. The Colorado, though, is not as mighty as it once was. Because of population growth in the Southwest the Colorado no longer reaches the Pacific Ocean, but trickles dry in the deserts of northern Mexico. In his Nov. 1 talk in the Taylor Science Center, adventurer Jonathan Waterman detailed his journey down the Colorado and discussed the implications of the overuse of the river as a water resource.

The Hamilton College Theatre Department will present Georg Büchner’s 1836 classic Woyzeck, directed by Professor Carole Bellini-Sharp and translated by Carl Richard Mueller.

Visiting Assistant Professor of Mathematics Joshua Wiscons has received an award from the National Science Foundation’s International Research Fellowship Program funding his proposal titled “Multiply transitive and generically multiply transitive groups of finite Morley rank.”

Assistant Professor of Anthropology Nathan Goodale, Associate Professor of Geoscience Dave Bailey, Professor of Anthropology Tom Jones,  Catherine Prescott ’12, Elizabeth Scholz ’13, recent graduate Nick Stagliano ’11 and Chelsea Lewis ’13 published their article titled “pXRF: A study of inter-instrument performance” in the Journal of Archaeological Science.

In conjunction with Kevin Kennedy Professor of Art Katharine Kuharic’s exhibition at P.P.O.W Gallery in New York City, poets Linda Norton, Wayne Koestenbaum and Eileen Myles will read from their work tonight (Nov. 1) at 6:30 p.m. Kuharic’s solo exhibition is titled Pound of Flesh and will be on display through Nov. 12 at P.P.O.W., located at 535 West 22nd Street.

The Newman Council hosted its annual Trust Treat on Halloween for children from the Thea Bowman House in Utica. Named in memory of Eric Trust '92, this yearly celebration aims to give children a safe and fun Halloween experience.
