This semester marks the introduction of a new course in the college’s Art History department: African-American Art and Black Historical Experience. The proseminar, taught by Professor Stephen J. Goldberg, is the first in the College’s history to reevaluate Western art from the African-American perspective.

The Hamilton College Theatre Department presents Our Town by Thornton Wilder as its Spring Theater Production. Performances will run Thursday, April 16 – Saturday, April 18, at 7:30 p.m., and Wednesday, April 22 – Saturday, April 25, at 7:30 p.m. A matinee will be performed on Saturday, April 18, at 2 p.m. All performances take place in the new state-of-the-art Romano Theatre within the Kennedy Center for Theatre and the Studio Arts.

A chapter by Visiting Assistant Professor of Classics Anne Feltovich titled “The Many Shapes of Sisterhood in Roman Comedy” appears in the recently published book Women in Roman Republican Drama, edited by D. Dutsch, S. James, and D. Konstan (Wisconsin 2015).

Assistant Professor of East Asian Languages and Literatures Zhuoyi Wang presented “From Disaster to Laughter: Making Comedies in the Changing Political Landscape of the People’s Republic of China, 1959-1963” on April 6 at the University of Oklahoma (OU). 

The Banquet of Donny & Ari: Scenes from the Opera by Professor of English and Creative Writing Naomi Guttman was featured in “Cover Collage: Food & Poetry” on April 6 on the All Lit Up blog.

Kiana “Kiki” Sosa ’15 and Kayla Cody ’15, both Boston Posse Foundation scholars, have been awarded Hamilton’s prestigious Bristol Fellowship.

Adriana Kugler, professor at the McCourt School of Public Policy and vice-provost for faculty at Georgetown University, will deliver a lecture titled “The Benefits and Cost of Trade Openness for Latin America” on Thursday, April 16, at 7:30 p.m., in the Kennedy Auditorium, Taylor Science Center. The talk is free and open to the public.

Felipe A. Ramirez ’15 presented a poster titled “Paleohydrologic Evolution of Lake Systems in the Washakie and Piceance Basins, Wyoming and Colorado” at the 50th Annual Meeting of the Geological Society of America – Northeastern Section.

The Hamilton College Program in Washington D.C. students had the privilege of attending a dinner hosted by Tom Vilsack ’72, P’00, Barbara Stein K’72 and Christie Vilsack K’72, P’00 on April 8. Tom Vilsack is the former governor of Iowa and current secretary of agriculture in the Obama administration. Christie Vilsack is senior advisor for international education at USAID, and Stein is director of strategic partnerships for the Partnership for 21st Century Skills.

Daniel Chambliss, the Eugene M. Tobin Distinguished Professor of Sociology, discussed How College Works at several recent alumni events in New England. The book, which he co-authored with Christopher Takacs ’05, was published in 2014 by Harvard University Press.
