  • Two groups of local third-grade students recently enjoyed some hands-on science learning with the help of Hamilton’s science faculty. For about 20 years, Professor of Biology Dave Gapp has organized “Science Exploration Days” which bring classes of elementary school students to Hamilton for guided tours and short lessons in various areas of science.

  • Edward (Ted) Miguel, professor of economics and director of the Center of Evaluation for Global Action at the University of California, Berkeley, will present a lecture on African economic development on Wednesday, April 6, at 8 p.m. in the Fillius Events Barn.

  • The Days -Massolo Center was formally dedicated on Friday, April 1, during Volunteer Weekend. It is named for Hamilton trustees Drew S. Days III ’63 and Arthur J. Massolo ’64 and is aimed at promoting diversity awareness on campus.  Massolo and his wife Karen unveiled the center’s plaque and Days offered remarks via video.

  • Connor Brown ’12 and Julia Litzky ’12 have been named Barry M. Goldwater Scholars for the 2011-12 academic year. They are among 275 scholars from across the U.S. to receive the Goldwater, the premier national undergraduate award in the fields of mathematics, the natural sciences and engineering.

  • Naomi Shihab Nye, award-winning poet, writer, anthologist and educator, will present a poetry reading and lecture on Tuesday, April 5, at 8 p.m., in the Hamilton College Chapel. Nye’s presentation is featured as part of The Diversity and Social Justice Project series on violence, peace, and justice. It is free and open to the public.

  • Members of the Posse Foundation and Hamilton community gathered on campus March 31 to celebrate a 10-year partnership. The Posse Foundation was represented by chief operating officer Matthew Fasciano, regional vice president Sue Dalelio,  director of Posse Miami Larissa Ramos,  and Lamont Gordon, director of Posse Boston. Hamilton Posse students and alumni as well as college administrators and faculty attended. Former Posse scholar Hector Acevedo '08 gave the keynote address.

  • Jennifer L. Thompson ’11 and Heather D. Parker ’11 presented posters at the Northeastern/North-Central Geological Society of America Joint Section Meeting held in Pittsburgh on March 22. Both were in the Geologic Education session of the conference.

  • The Hamilton College Choir will perform the home concert of its recently completed Spring Break Tour on Friday, April 1, at 8 p.m. in Wellin Hall. The performance is free and open to the public.

  • “An Evening with Spike Lee,” sponsored by the Hamilton College Voices of Color Lecture Series, has been rescheduled to Wednesday, April 13, at 8:30 p.m., in Wellin Hall.

  • Hamilton will host the Christian A. Johnson Excellence in Teaching Conference, an academic conference that will focus on teaching and learning for a meaningful life, on Saturday, April 2.  The conference is supported by the Christian A. Johnson Endeavor Foundation and will take place in the Kennedy Auditorium, Science Center.
