Stephen J. Wright, a senior geosciences major, presented a poster titled “2011:  A Comparison of Tornado Events in Dixie Alley and Upstate New York,” at the 37th Annual Northeastern Storm Conference held in Rutland, Vt., on March 2-4.

Professor of History Shoshana Keller just published a review of Jorn Happel's book, Nomadische Lebenswelten und zarische Politik: Der Aufstand in Zentralasien 1916, in the journal Slavic Review.

Hamilton will host the first Mobile Learning Summit on Friday, March 16, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Kirner-Johnson Building.  Presented in partnership with the New York State Association for Computers and Technologies in Education (NYSCATE), the summit will include discussions, presentations and workshop sessions spanning the mobile technologies within the K-20 educational continuum.

The Muslim Students Association (MSA) and the College chaplaincy recently unveiled Hamilton College’s new Muslim prayer room. Located on the second floor of the Chapel, the prayer room is the first space on campus that MSA has been able to call its own.

The Nesbitt-Johnston Writing Center noted its 25th birthday on March 6 with a festive celebration at the Center in KJ. Writing Center director Sharon Williams, Center assistant Dori Critelli, Writing Center tutors, students and faculty gathered for cupcakes and refreshments.

Professor of French John C. O'Neal was interviewed, along with several other international scholars of Swiss philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau, for a special issue of L'Hebdo magazine.

As Hamilton’s trustees gathered this past week on the Hill for their meetings, two alumni took the opportunity to speak with a select group of students about career paths, life, and the state of the global economy. Rob Morris ’76 and Henry Bedford ’76 spoke to students in Professor Erol Balkan’s International Finance course on March 1 and 2, respectively, providing perspective on topics relevant to the class’s course material.

Professors Alan Cafruny and Ted Lehmann of the Government department have published an article in the New Left Review titled "Over The Horizon?  The United States and Iraq."  The article evaluates the retained influence of the U.S. in Iraq and the broader Gulf region in the aftermath of the troop withdrawal completed in December 2011. The piece grew out of a letter to the editor that they published in The Financial Times on Dec. 21, 2011.
