In the final chapter of its 200th anniversary observance, Hamilton concluded its on June 30, 2013, with gifts and pledges of $139.8 million.  Bicentennial Initiatives was centered on the College’s three most pressing priorities: student financial aid, growing unrestricted support through the Annual Fund.

Hamilton’s up-and-coming artists and actors will have an integrated home when the new theatre and studio arts complex is completed in July 2014.  The new center will contain three main areas for the arts, theatre and digital arts and by virtue of its central location will become the “front porch” of campus,  according to Professor of Music Sam Pellman, who has led the campus planning committee for the new arts facilities.

The new theatre and studio arts building under construction is taking on a distinctive shape with its steel foundation in place. When complete the $46.8 million complex will encompass 81,000 square feet.

Hamilton’s latest major building project is well under way with the construction of the theatre and studio arts building progressing on schedule. Bill Huggins, associate director of Physical Plant, says the project is on track to be finished in July, 2014. When complete the $46.8 million complex will encompass 81,000 square feet.

The entertainer that Forbes ranked as the most charitable celebrity in 2011 will give a benefit concert for the alumni, parents and friends of Hamilton College Jon Bon Jovi and The Kings of Suburbia will perform on Wednesday, Dec. 5, at the Best Buy Theater in New York’s Times Square. Attendees can expect to hear Jon Bon Jovi hits, as well as classic rock and roll songs. The evening will feature an eclectic set list performed by one of America’s most popular singer-songwriters.

The Ruth and Elmer Wellin Museum, Hamilton’s biggest summer construction project, is in its final stages.  Steve Bellona, associate vice president for facilities & planning, reported that  final finish work on the interior is in progress.  Wood flooring in the main gallery is being installed and is expected to be complete at the end of this week.

In its bicentennial year, Hamilton has broken all previous philanthropic records, raising $42.5 million in 2011-12 versus the past record total, $30.8 million in 2006-07. This year’s success pushed the three-year Bicentennial Initiatives campaign beyond its original goal of $117 million 16 months ahead of its scheduled conclusion. In response, the Board of Trustees in June raised the goal to $133 million.

On the eve of the completion of the Ruth and Elmer Wellin Museum of Art, groundbreaking for the College’s new theatre and studio arts center was celebrated on Friday, July 20. The theatre and studio arts center is part of an arts complex that includes the Wellin Museum of Art, the Molly Root House and a revitalized pond and landscaping.

Hamilton College’s Bicentennial Initiatives campaign exceeded its $117 million goal 16 months ahead of its scheduled conclusion on June 30, 2013. The funds raised in the first two years of this brief three-year effort now surpass $119 million.

Having approved design construction documents for a new theatre and studio arts building, the Board of Trustees on June 2 authorized the officers of the college to enter into a contract with Charles A. Gaetano Construction Corp. of Utica to build new studio arts and theatre facilities in an amount not to exceed $46.8 million. Construction will begin this month and completion of the building is expected in summer 2014.
