The Hamilton College F.I.L.M. series will present a selection of cinematic adaptations of Erza Pound poems from filmmaker Bernard Dew, on Wednesday, Oct. 30, at 4:30 p.m., in Bradford Auditorium.

Hong Gang Jin, the William R. Kenan Professor of East Asian Languages and Literature and director of the Associated Colleges in China program, presented a keynote speech at an international Chinese teaching conference.

The Hamilton College F.I.L.M. (Forum on Image and Language in Motion) series will screen “Leviathan” (2012) with director Lucien Castaing-Taylor, on Sunday, Oct. 27, at 2 p.m., in the Bradford Auditorium, Kirner-Johnson Building. The event includes the screening of the film as well as a discussion with the director. It is free and open to the public.

Naomi Guttman, professor of English and creative writing, published four poems in the fall issue of Gastronomica: The Journal of Food and Culture.

“The Nightingale,” an intaglio print by Professor of Art William Salzillo, was selected for the 21st National Exhibition sponsored by the Los Angeles Printmaking Society (LAPS). The show runs Oct. 26 through Dec. 14 at the California State University Northridge Art Galleries. An opening reception will be held on Oct. 26 from 5–9 p.m.

Associate Professor of Japanese Kyoko Omori gave a talk at the Association of Japanese Literary Studies conference at the University of Chicago on Oct. 19. Her paper was titled “Narrating Modernity: Tokugawa Musei, Creative Adaptation, and Benshi Performance.”

Assistant Professor of Africana Studies Nigel Westmaas has published an article in the new book Claim no Easy Victories: the Legacy of Amilcar Cabral (2013). The book marks the 40th anniversary of the assassination of the Guinea–Bissau & Cape Verde revolutionary and independence movement leader.

Professor of French John C. O'Neal has published "Portrait de Saint-Preux en personnage transgenre dans Julie ou la Nouvelle Héloïse in a collection of essays titled Masculinités en révolution: de Rousseau à Balzac, Saint-Étienne, 2013.

Christian Goodwillie, director and curator of Special Collections and archives, co-authored a book on Shaker hymns titled Richard McNemar, Music, and the Western Shaker Communities: “Branches of One Living Tree.” The book presents a study of the Shakers’ movement west during the early 19th century.

Eight Hamilton seniors were elected to the Epsilon chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, the nation’s oldest honor society, at the October meeting. The inductees are John Boudreau, Mao Ding, Sarah Hammond, Katherine Hill, Kara Robinson, Max Schnidman, Ashley Williams and Emily Winters.
