  • Two Hamilton students were among participants at a Media Scholarship in the Liberal Arts presentation at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass., on Feb. 2. Kira DesJardins '10 and Kelsey Rice '10 participated in panel discussions at the workshop with Professor of English Vincent Odamtten and Instructional Technologist Janet Simons. The session was developed by Simons and David Baird of Colgate University.

  • Dean of Admission and Financial Aid Monica Inzer discussed Hamilton's proactive response to the economic challenges affecting the families of some students attending the College in a Wall Street Journal article, "Families Appeal to Colleges for Extra Aid," published on Feb. 5.

  • Tim Minella '09, a double major in government and physics, has been honored with the Chambliss Astronomy Achievement Student Award by the American Astronomical Society (AAS). These awards are given to recognize exemplary research by undergraduate and graduate students who present at one of the poster sessions at the meetings of the American Astronomical Society. Minella presented results of his research at the 213th meeting of the American Astronomical Society in Long Beach, Calif., in January. The awardees receive a Chambliss medal and a certificate.

  • Hamilton College women's track and field athlete Akilah Bond '09 (Amherst, Mass./Amherst Regional HS) has been selected an Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III co-Field Athlete of the Week.

  • Jim Kennedy, vice president and director for strategic planning at the Associated Press, presented "The New Model for News" on February 3 in the Science Center. The presentation focused on how the Associated Press (AP) is confronted with the challenge of restructuring the news to fit the new generational consumption of media. Kennedy provided detailed information regarding how the AP addressed this problem as well as solutions for news consumption in the future.

  • Since November 2008, Hamilton has been producing power from the wind turbine on the South Campus and its two photo-voltaic solar arrays located on the roofs of Kirner-Johnson and the Outdoor Leadership Center, according to Associate Vice President for Facilities and Planning Steve Bellona.

  • Hamilton's Nordic Ski Team is making a name for itself in competitions in the Northeast. Emily Stinson '09 has been instrumental in organizing a team that travels and competes every weekend.
