  • In conjunction with Volunteer Weekend on the hill, a variety of industry-specific career workshops were sponsored by the Career Center and the Office of Alumni Relations on Saturday, April 4. Alumni panels were designed to answer career-related questions and give advice to candidates for graduation on various avenues to pursue while job-searching, especially during the current economic climate. All of the workshops were centered on the theme, "The Power of the Hamilton Network: Career Connections."

  • On Friday, April 3, a panel of alumni gave a presentation titled "Careers, Networking and Employment in the Current Economic Climate," as part of the annual Alumni Council weekend at Hamilton. The panel was comprised of alumni industry experts who gave advice on career searches and transitions as well as offered a broader perspective on possible career paths for current students and alumni. The presentation was moderated by the Director of the Career Center Kino Ruth.

  • Associate Professor of Art History Stephen J. Goldberg delivered a lecture at an Asian Studies Development Program National Symposium, Crossing Borders: Identities, Insights, and Expressions in East Asia, held at the Tufts University Jean Mayer Research Center on April 4. His lecture was titled "Differencing the Visible: How Experience is Made Visible in Chinese and Japanese Art."  

  • Marie Piayai, a candidate for May graduation from Hamilton College, has been awarded a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship (ETA) to Thailand. Piayai is a world politics major at Hamilton.

  • Sander Doucette '09 was interviewed regarding his Sylvan Beach research for a Syracuse Post-Standard column titled "Oneida Lake Life."  An economics major, Doucette is conducting a survey of Sylvan Beach's plan to restore its beach. According to the article, "The village's namesake beach has eroded more than 100 feet in the past century. Village officials have won state approval to haul sand dredged from the Erie Canal and spread it out on the beach."

  • Michael Ondaatje, award-winning author of The English Patient and Divisadero, will present the Winton J. Tolles Lecture at Hamilton College on Thursday, April 9, at 8 p.m. in the Chapel. It is free and open to the public and will be followed by a reception and book-signing in Dwight Lounge, Bristol Campus Center.

  • Hamilton College lost its opening New England Small College Athletic Conference match against host Colby College, 6-3, in Waterville, Maine, on April 4.
