The Hamilton College Performing Arts Series and Kirkland Art Center join forces to present bluegrass legend The Seldom Scene on Friday, Nov. 2, at 8 p.m., in Wellin Hall, Schambach Center for Music and the Performing Arts.

Julia Beaty ’13, Becca Hazlett ’13 and Greg Newton ’14 each presented their papers at the 70th annual convention of the New York State Communication Association on October 19-21, in Ellenville, N.Y.

Hamilton College will resume normal operations on Tuesday, Oct. 30. The campus appears to be relatively unscathed by Hurricane Sandy. Please continue to take care in moving about campus.

Hamilton College will close today (Oct. 29) at 5 p.m. in anticipation of the arrival of Hurricane Sandy.  Due to the high wind advisory, and to minimize pedestrian travel around campus, all activities after 5 p.m. are canceled and facilities will be closed. Commons and McEwen Dining Halls will be open for student dining. On the Hill: A Bicentennial History of Hamilton College, written by Publius Virgilius Rogers Professor of American History Maurice Isserman, received the 2012 Arline Custer Memorial Award for books from the Mid-Atlantic Regional Archives Conference (MARAC). The award was presented on Oct. 27 in Richmond, Va.

Bad weather held off and students and their families reunited for Hamilton’s annual Family Weekend on Oct. 26-28.  Some 1,470 visitors enjoyed musical and dance performances, sat in on classes, viewed posters of students' summer research and shopped in the village of Clinton.

With the 2012 elections less than two weeks away, Think Tank held a session on Oct. 26 focusing on the timely topic of the presidential election.  Phil Klinkner, the James S. Sherman Professor of Government, was invited to lead a discussion with an audience of students, staff and visiting parents.

Associate Professor of Government Peter Cannavò published an op-ed, “The Real Frankenstorm,” on The Huffington Post (Oct. 26, 2012). In the piece Cannavò questions why the subject of climate change has not been addressed in this year’s presidential race.

On October 5, senior creative writing majors Seiya Asada-Johnson, Martin Cain, Anna Paikert and Cecelie Pikus traveled to New York City to attend the 13th annual New Yorker Festival with Professors of Creative Writing Doran Larson and Jane Springer.

Professor of French John C. O'Neal recently traveled to France for a conference on the notion of authenticity in Rousseau's thought. O'Neal's paper, "Rousseau à l'âge de Facebook: l'authenticité et le défi de l'opinion publique dans les Dialogues," was given at the Université Stendhal-Grenoble 3 on Oct. 19.
