How to Apply for a Social Security Number
- Step 1: Submit a Social Security Letter Request. You will need to upload your employment offer letter from your on-campus employer.
- Step 2: Submit an application to the Social Security Administration (SSA) online. Save the Control Number after you submit your application.
- Step 3: Make a transportation appointment (Appointments are usually 30 minutes of less).

- Step 4: Gather your documents – DSO Letter (emailed), Passport, I-20, and your most recent I-94
- Step 5: Email the receipt you were given at the Social Security Office to oodegbam@hamilton.edu
You should get your social security card in the mail between 7-10 business days. Possession of a social security number does NOT constitute eligibility to work.
