Cybersecurity Awareness Month
Join Hamilton College in Staying Safe Online
October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month, and we're joining the global effort to help our community "Stay Safe Online." This year's theme emphasizes that cybersecurity is achievable for everyone through simple, empowering actions that make a big difference.
In today's digital world, cybersecurity isn't just an IT concern—it's everyone's responsibility. Whether protecting Hamilton's data, safeguarding personal information, or keeping accounts secure, small actions create meaningful impact.
Throughout October, we'll focus on practical, effective steps everyone can take to strengthen cybersecurity. Join us for tips, activities, and resources to boost your online safety.
The Core 5: Essential Online Safety Tips
Create unique, strong passwords for every account and use a password manager to store them safely. This single step dramatically improves your security.
Add an extra layer of security to your accounts. Even if someone gets your password, MFA helps keep them out of your accounts.
Keep your devices and applications up-to-date. Software updates often include important security fixes that protect against new threats.
Learn to identify phishing emails, suspicious links, and other scams. When in doubt, report it to infosec@hamilton.edu.
Hamilton College requires annual information security awareness training for all faculty and staff. Stay current with your training to protect our community and meet compliance requirements.
Cybersecurity is Everyone's Responsibility
By following Hamilton's Core 5 security practices and completing your required training, we can build a stronger, more secure digital environment - one step at a time.
