| Course Description: | What is mental illness? How have societal views of it changed over time? How do people enter treatment systems? In this course we will examine sociological insights into mental illness, including the "socially constructed" nature of mental illness and the pervasive stigma experienced by those who contend with it. Together, we will challenge our commonly held (mis)conceptions of mental illness. |
