Course Description:

Is “home sweet home” the same for all of us? Why do some people have to live outside while homes stand empty? Why do women still do most of the housework? Drawing on Marxist feminism, critical ethnic studies, queer theory, critical human geography, and economic anthropology, this interdisciplinary course introduces students to a feminist framework for theorizing the home and its role in our politics and economy. Students will apply this framework to a range of issues including domestic labor, gentrification, parenting, homeownership, financialization, and homelessness.
