About the Play:
Mark Rylance, Oscar and three-time Tony winner, returns to the stage in a new play, Farinelli and the King by Claire van Kampen. "A profoundly funny and haunting meditation on the power of music" (The Independent). Coming to Broadway following a sold-out run on London's West End, Farinelli and the King tells the story of Philippe V, a Spanish monarch on the brink of madness. He finds unexpected solace in the voice of world-renowned castrato, Farinelli. This contemporary work is presented in the signature style of Shakespeare's Globe – candlelight, Baroque instruments and intimate onstage seating create an enchanting theatergoing experience and "a pleasure that verges on the sublime" (The Guardian).
