Skiing to Win a War: Professor of History Maurice Isserman on his book, The Winter Army

10/10/2023, 7:00 PMVIRTUAL

Join us as Publius Virgilius Rogers Professor of American History Maurice Isserman leads a discussion of his book, The Winter Army: The World War II Odyssey of the 10th Mountain Division, America’s Elite Alpine Warriors. Professor Isserman will touch on his love of skiing and mountaineering as he explains the history of the 10th, the first specialized alpine fighting force in American history. Among the division's recruits were Hamilton alumni, the father of Tom Thompson ’73, and a young Williams College student named Donald Potter P'73, who was later a professor of geology at Hamilton and father of Jennifer Potter Hayes K’73. Fun fact: Americans can thank the 10th for the development of skiing as a recreational sport! This event is sponsored by the Hamilton-Kirkland Class of 1974 in honor of their 50th reunion but is open to all.
