Even Small Steps Matter: Trent Romer ’92 on Personal Sustainability

12/13/2023, 12:00 PMVIRTUAL

Trent Romer ’92 has been in the custom plastic bag manufacturing business for over 30 years. He was the third generation co-owner of his family’s business Clear View Bag Co., Inc., founded in 1961 by his grandfather. The business was sold in 2021 to a private equity firm. Trent continues working for Clear View and serves as a sustainability operating partner for the private equity firm focused on environmental, social and governance issues within portfolio companies.

He is guided by his faith and loves the outdoors, both of which he found at a young age. His passion for the planet, his faith, and his family business ignited a quest to take action toward a better future. He has traveled extensively to learn about and apply sustainability in his professional and personal life.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in Economics from Hamilton and went on to get master’s degrees in both Education and in Business from the State University of New York at Albany. He has earned sustainability certificates in Corporate Sustainability Management Risk, Profit and Purpose from Yale University and Education for Sustainability Leadership from Harvard University. In 2022, Romer spoke at TEDxBoston, a year after completing Climate Reality Leadership Training. He authored Finding Sustainability, a “gold winner” in the Non-Fiction Book Awards.
