Welcome to the Hamilton College Wellness Education library!
Throughout a given semester, a variety of health and wellness-based topics are presented in a lunch-and-learn format to increase the wellness knowledge of the Hamilton Community. As of February 2023, all presentations are recorded so that anyone may experience these sessions at a day and time that is convenient for them. Below you find the library of presentations, their information, and links to their videos on YouTube in consecutive order of occurrence.
Additionally, two special women’s-health initiatives are included: The Menopause Moment series, and the Hamilton Women’s Health Forum series.

Do you have a goal that has been sitting on the shelf or one you’re actively pursuing? Research shows that those of us that actively pursue goals are happier than those that don’t. It’s the things that we don’t do that we regret more than the things we do. In this session we will look at the science of goal meeting, how to form SMART goals & how to build “failure” into your process. You will walk away with a road map for your personal goal and skills to put in practice for future goal meeting.

You’ve likely heard it yourself or from a friend or family member who just came back from the doctor: “I’ve got arthritis!”, “the doctor told me my knee looks bad”, or “I was told I’ve got bone-on-bone” and the fear cycle began. But what does this really mean, and how does it affect your approach to physical activity? This talk will cover the mechanics of arthritis, its common misconceptions, and correlations (or lack thereof) between imaging studies and symptoms. Kevin will educate you about what steps and measures can be taken to prevent, work with, and treat arthritic pain.

Resilience is our ability to bounce back from adversity and grow from challenges. As humans, we are a resilient species. But there are ways that we can enhance our resilience, learn to better tackle challenges, and even thrive amidst extreme difficulties. In this session we will reflect on our personal resilience narratives, look at tools to build our resilience muscle and strengthen the ability to handle what comes our way

If you think you can, you think you can. Our thoughts affect our beliefs, our beliefs shape our mindset, our mindset guides our behavior, and our behavior ultimately determines our results. Our success in all domains of life are greatly influenced by the thoughts we choose and the mindset we hold about our ability to achieve that success. In this session we will look at the benefits of a growth mindset over a fixed mindset, how to recognize and transform self-limiting beliefs and how to work with judgment, doubt and obstacles as they arise.

The Hamilton Women's Health Forum
Maureen Hughes of Live Aligned Coaching, LLC, delivers session 1 of the Hamilton Women's Health Forum discussing female-focused nutrition.

In recognition of the American Heart Association's Heart Month, the next forum focused on cardiac health specific to women. This month's session of the HWHF will be focused on specific heart health aspects for women, particularly before, during, and after menopause. We will discuss the various ways heart health affects women specifically. There will be initiatives introduced that will help empower us around heart health and improve our risk factors.

Osteoporosis was March’s topic as HWHF session 3. Osteoporosis affects almost 20% (1 in 5) of women aged 50 and over. Information was designed to empower us to enhance bone health and reduce our risk factors so that we can start establishing behaviors that promote bone health.

The final HWHF meeting of the spring 2024 semester covered the topic of mental health. It is a fundamental aspect of our overall health, influencing our daily experiences, relationships, work, and overall physical health. It's something we all possess, might know someone experiencing challenges, might be experiencing ourselves, or all of the above! Together, we'll explore the importance of mental health and strategies for maintaining balance in our lives.
