The Turkish edition of The Neoliberal Landscape and the Rise of Islamic Capital in Turkey, co-authored by Professor of Economics Erol Balkan, was recently published by Yordam Books in Istanbul. Balkan’s co-authors were Nesecan Balkan and Ahmet Oncu.

The National Museum of American History has designated April as Jazz Appreciation Month (JAM). So in the spirit of JAM, Hamilton’s Fillius Jazz Archive is featuring one artist daily on the news site along with that individual’s archived audio interview. Today’s featured artist is Ed Shaughnessy.

Jody Roberts, director of the Center for Contemporary History and Policy at the Chemical Heritage Foundation (CHF) in Philadelphia, will present a lecture titled “Sensing Change: How Art and Science Work to Communicate Environmental Change” on Wednesday, April 23, at 4:10 p.m., in the Red Pit, Kirner-Johnson Building.

Lawrence Chua, postdoctoral fellow in Asian Studies and visiting assistant professor of art history, presented a talk at the “Rethinking Art History” symposium, organized by the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston (MFAH) in collaboration with Rice University on April 13 and 14.

The Hamilton College Voices of Color Lecture Series welcomed renowned dance icon Judith Jamison for an intimate talk in the Chapel on April 18. The Series honors C. Christine Johnson, former director of the Hamilton College Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP. In the context of being an empowered role model, eager to give back, Jamison reflected on her career in the performing arts, most significantly her involvement in classical ballet.

Anderson Tuggle '14, a candidate for May graduation from Hamilton, has been awarded a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship (ETA) to Turkey. He is a history major at Hamilton and studied abroad in India in 2012.

Barry Schwartz, professor of psychology at Swarthmore College, will deliver a lecture titled “Higher Education Must Be Character Education” on Tuesday, April 22, at 4:15 p.m., in Bradford Auditorium, Kirner-Johnson Building. His lecture is part of the Christian A. Johnson Teaching Conference and is free and open to the public.

Students in the Hamilton College Program in Washington, D.C., met with officials from the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor at the U.S. Department of State on April 2. Representatives from press and policy, foreign affairs, the Office of Global Programs and a program analyst comprised a panel that discussed the bureau’s efforts to promote democracy, protect human rights and international religious freedom and to advance labor rights globally.

Professor of Philosophy Todd Franklin delivered an invited lecture on April 10 at The Center of East Asian and Comparative Philosophy in Hong Kong.
