Eleven members of Hamilton’s Class of 2017 will be joining Teach for America. Teach For America is a selective non-profit that gives the nation’s top leaders an opportunity to impact social inequity from the head of a classroom. As teachers, its corps members work in partnership with communities to expand educational opportunity for children facing the challenges of poverty.

Associate Professor of Government Sharon Werning Rivera has been awarded a $49,999 grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to support her project, “Russian Elite Attitudes toward Conflict and the West.”

Million Dollar Listing New York, which airs on May 25 on Bravo TV, was one of the most downloaded cable shows on iTunes last season.

Andre Burnham ‘18 and Michael Valeri ‘19 have been awarded Coccia Foundation Scholarships for study abroad in Italy. The Foundation was established in 1994 by Cavaliere Joseph Coccia, Jr., and his wife Elda. The organization is dedicated to the preservation and celebration of Italian culture, with a particular emphasis on promoting the rich Italian cultural heritage among younger generations at the college level.

Professor of Comparative Literature Nancy Sorkin Rabinowitz recently participated in a panel on “Ethical Engagement and the Study of Antiquity” and a follow-up workshop at the University of Southern California.

It's become a tradition for Hamilton students to visit nearby Clinton Elementary School to help children there learn Spanish. Associate Professor of Hispanic Studies Edna Rodriguez-Plate launched the volunteer program in 2012.

Alex Wang ’17 will be the first Hamilton graduate to work for Carlisle & Company, a boutique management consulting company outside of Boston that focuses exclusively on the automobile industry.

A new book titled f, p, e & i, by Visiting Assistant Professor of Mathematics Dave Perkins, was recently published by MAA Press. It is Perkins’ second book published in the Mathematical Association of America’s Spectrum series.

Eleven members of the Class of 2017 were recently elected into the Hamilton College Chapter of Sigma Xi, the scientific research society.

In his address at Hamilton’s commencement Baker shared five observations with the Class of 2017, reminding them that “discussing differences is not a war, it’s a conversation. There can always be more than one point of view.”
