Hamilton a capella group The Buffers performed in the 33rd annual John Lennon Tribute concert before a sold-out crowd at Symphony Space on Manhattan’s Upper West Side on Dec. 6. The Lennon Tribute, co-sponsored by Theatre Within and Music Without Borders, began in 1981 as a small gathering of artists who wished to honor the memory of the musical icon, and has since grown into a major charity event for the Spirit Foundation, which Lennon and Yoko Ono founded in 1978.

Hamilton joins with the world community in mourning the death and celebrating the life of Nelson Mandela.

Professor of Comparative Literature Nancy Sorkin Rabinowitz authored entries on feminist criticism and structuralism in the newly issued online Encyclopedia of Greek Tragedy, edited by Hanna Roisman.

A number of Hamilton student-athletes braved icy cold conditions on Dec. 8 to participate in the 7th annual Oneida Shores Polar Plunge to benefit Special Olympics New York. The event took place in Brewerton on Oneida Lake.

Assistant Professor of Religious Studies Seth Schermerhorn presented a paper at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Religion (AAR) held Nov. 22 – 26 in Baltimore.

Professor of Economics Stephen Wu has been appointed to the editorial board of The Journal of Socio-Economics.  The journal publishes papers that deal with various economic topics but also involve issues that are related to other social sciences, such as psychology and sociology.

It was all part of a project for his course “Frauds and Fantastic Claims in Archaeology.”

Austin Briggs, the Hamilton B. Tompkins Professor of English emeritus, published a letter to the editor, “Joyce and drink,” in the Sept. 13 issue of TLS, The Times Literary Supplement (London).

The Ruth and Elmer Wellin Museum of Art welcomed more than 200 7th and 8th grade students from Holland Patent Central School during November. The visit was organized by Holland Patent art teacher Karen Deuel-Spine, Megan Austin, Wellin Museum manager of educational programming and outreach, and Amber Spadea, school and family educator.

The Hamilton College Choir, directed by Professor G. Roberts Kolb, will lead a Candlelight Christmas Vesper Service of Lessons and Carols on Sunday, Dec. 8, at 4 p.m., in the Chapel. The service is free and open to the public.
