The Hamilton Alumni Association of the Mohawk Valley invites alumni and parents for a reception preceding the Sacerdote Great Names Series lecture by Hillary Rodham Clinton, former Secretary of State and former U.S. Senator from New York, on Friday, Oct. 4.

In honor of Constitution Day, Professor of Government Robert Martin will speak on the topic “Occupying Philadelphia in 1787: The Constitution’s Critics and the Birth of American Democratic Culture,” on Tuesday, Sept. 17, at 8 p.m., in the Red Pit, KJ.  The talk is free and open to the public.

Mihai Dohotaru, a class of 2013 graduate, is jumping directly into a career in business. He began a job this summer with UBS as a financial analyst, taking on a lot of responsibility within the financial services company.

“Broadway and Tin Pan Alley” is the theme of the second session in the America’s Music film history screenings and musical performances, sponsored by the Kirkland Town Library (KTL) and Hamilton College’s Burke Library. The film screening  is Tuesday, Sept. 17, at 7 p.m., in Bradford Auditorium, KJ.  All films and performances are free and open to the public.

Prudence Bushnell, former U.S. ambassador to Kenya and Guatemala, and CEO of Sage Associates, will lecture on Monday, Sept. 16, at 4:15 p.m., in the Bradford Auditorium, KJ.  Her lecture, titled “Transformational Leadership in Foreign Affairs, Where Is It?,” is sponsored by the Arthur Levitt Public Affairs Center, and is free and open to the public.

Assistant Professor of Economics Emily Conover recently published a co-authored paper in the World Bank Economic Review journal. The paper, “Effects of Colombia’s Social Protection System on Workers’ Choice between Formal and Informal Employment” examines whether the Colombian government's expansion of publicly provided health insurance, discouraged workers from seeking formal employment.

The Hamilton College canoe team continued a recent tradition by participating on Sept. 7 in the Adirondack Canoe Classic, a three-day, 90-mile race that tests outdoor skills, endurance and poise under pressure.

Kevin W. Kennedy Professor of Art Katharine Kuharic recently served on the Art in General Venice Biennale committee and traveled to Venice for the opening of the international art exhibition. The show continues through Nov. 24.

“A CLEAR VIEW - The Wellin Museum of Art creates a new model for the university museum," an eight-page article published in the September/October issue of Museum Magazine, offers a glowing review of the museum, its staff and its programming. An article that appeared in the August issue of Interior Design magazine, “Edifying Edifices - College museums can teach much more than art history,” also celebrated the Wellin Museum.

The Hamilton College community took part in a vigil commemorating the 12th anniversary of the September 11th attacks.  Students, faculty and community members met in front of Kirner-Johnson and walked to the  Chapel. The informal program included song, spoken reflection, and silence, then participants placed candles on the Chapel steps.
