David Solomon ’84, co-head of Investment Banking at Goldman Sachs, returned to Hamilton on Oct. 2 and spoke with students on the role finance plays in the world. Solomon, who majored in government at Hamilton, described how finance had always fascinated and intrigued him because it “helps [him] put in perspective how the world is changing, and how all of those changes affect all of us and what we do.” 

The dedication of Morris House as Hamilton’s newest residence hall and a lecture by career diplomat Thomas Pickering about the status of Iran will be among highlights of Hamilton’s Fallcoming Weekend, Oct. 1-4.   Football, men’s and women’s soccer and field hockey will host games on Saturday, a capella groups will perform and the Alumni Association will hold its annual recognition dinner.

Judy Silverstein Gray K’78, has published a book titled "Careers in the US Coast Guard." The Enslow Publishing website offers this description of her latest book: “The United States Coast Guard is often the first line of defense against attacks at sea. They are also the first call if there is a hurricane or a flood.  A career in the Coast Guard promises adventure, and working with diverse groups of people…”

On September 16, the Elihu Root Society of New York hosted a talk by Daniel Connolly ’85, P’18, titled “The Role of the Lawyer in a Time of Governmental Reform: Tales from the Giuliani Administration and NYC’s Re-Birth.”

Nassau Community College has named Thomas Dolan ’78 as its interim president to replace acting president Kenneth Saunders. Dolan joins NCC from the Great Neck Public School District, where he served as superintendent.

In Washington, D.C., for a reception to welcome young Hamilton College alumni to the city, mascot “Alex” took some time to protest the possible removal or reduction of the image of Alexander Hamilton by the U.S. Department of the Treasury on the $10 bill.  His Sept. 16 trip included a visit with Congressman Richard Hanna (R-NY 22nd District) who represents the Clinton  and Oneida County area.

Imagem Music, the world’s largest independent music publisher, has named Bill Gaden ’84 the new chief executive officer of Imagem USA. Gaden had been the chief operating officer of Imagem, a role he assumed when the company acquired The Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization. Prior to the acquisition, Gaden served as Rodgers & Hammerstein’s senior vice president and general manager.

The Hamilton College community remembers the victims of the 9/11 attacks on the 14th anniversary of the tragedy.  Hamilton alumni Arthur Jones III '84,  Adam J. Lewis '87 and Sylvia San Pio Resta'95 were among those who lost their lives that day.

Andrew Savage ‘85 will be competing this fall for the second time on the hit reality show Survivor. Savage first appeared on Survivor 12 years ago on season 7, Survivor: Pearl Islands.
