  • This past weekend, the Hamilton College Curling team traveled to Bowling Green, Ohio, to compete in the Bowling Green Regional Bonspiel.  Two teams from Hamilton competed in the event.

  • Hamilton’s annual FebFest concluded on Feb. 18 with the always popular Chili Cookoff in the Little Pub. For the second consecutive year Nile Berry ’14, Michael Kendall ’14 and Carolina Geiger ’14 won the cook-off, with their “We're not cold, we're chili” entry.

  • On Feb. 15, students in the Program in Washington met with Michael McCurry P ’13, co-chair of the Commission on Presidential Debates. CPD was established in 1987 to sponsor and produce debates for the United States presidential and vice presidential candidates and to undertake research and educational activities relating to the debates.

  • Hamilton’s Mock Trial team continued to have a successful season, finishing fourth at the Buffalo, N.Y., regional tournament held Feb. 10 - 12. With an overall record of 7-1, the team earned a bid to compete in the Opening Round Championship Series in Hamilton, Ohio, on March 23 - 25. Maggie McGuire ’15 and Ian Carradine ’15 won Outstanding Witness awards, demonstrating the depth of the team’s talent.

  • For students in the Semester in Washington Program, variety is the spice of political life. A diverse group of these students—conservative, liberals and the curious—chose to attend the  39th annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) that took place February 9-11.

  • Fifteen Hamilton students took time out on Saturday, Feb. 11, to serve as judges for the Clinton Middle School Science Fair.  The Hamilton volunteers took their jobs seriously, providing many helpful comments on the middle school students’ score sheets.

  • A lack of snow isn’t enough to put a halt to FebFest 2012. “Winter Candy Land” will take place on Feb. 11-18 with a chocolate tasting, Chili cook-off, ice skating party and more planned. Many events are free and others require a $5 button that can be purchased in Beinecke or at each event. Some FebFest highlights follow.

  • Sixteen members of the Class of 2012 were elected to the Epsilon chapter of Phi Beta Kappa at a meeting on Feb. 8.  

  • Ten Hamilton students traveled to Montreal to participate in the McGill University Model United Nations Assembly (McMUN), which convened January 26-29.  The conference drew more than 1,300 delegates to fill 25 different committees that focused on international relations in the Information Age.

  • Students in Hamilton’s Program in Washington, D.C., visited the American Enterprise Institute this week and met with Steven Hayward, the F. K. Weyerhaeuser Fellow.  Hayward writes on a wide range of public policy issues and is the author of the Almanac of Environmental Trends, and many books on environmental topics.
