Hamilton College will name its theatre and studio arts building for Kevin and Karen Kennedy in recognition of their lifetime giving to the college, including $10 million for the new project. They are the lead donors to the $46.8 million building that is located directly across College Hill Road from the Ruth and Elmer Wellin Museum of Art, which opened in 2012.

Hamilton College Performing Arts concludes the spring series with a performance by the International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE) on Friday, April 18, at 7:30 p.m., in Wellin Hall, Schambach Center for Music and the Performing Arts. The Hamilton College Orchestra will appear as special guests with ICE.

Hamilton’s barbershop quartet, The Major Four-Teens, won the Seneca Land District collegiate quartet competition on April 11 in Geneva, N.Y. Seniors Gabe Mollica (tenor), Jake Taylor (lead), Andrew Rippel (baritone) and Will Robertson (bass) make up the quartet.

The National Museum of American History has designated April as Jazz Appreciation Month (JAM). So in the spirit of JAM, Hamilton’s Fillius Jazz Archive is featuring one artist daily on the news site along with that individual’s archived audio interview. Today’s featured artist is Nat Hentoff.

Six months ago, Samuel Matlick ’17 competed with more than 50 other current students and recent graduates in Hamilton’s fourth annual Pitch Competition. His win there encouraged him to forge ahead, hoping to bring his idea to fruition. A week ago, he presented his plan at a regional business plan competition hosted by SUNY Institute of Technology and he walked away a winner again.

Professor of Biology Sue Ann Miller served on the Grants-in-Aid of Research (GIAR) Committee of Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Society April 4-6 at the society’s headquarters in Research Triangle Park, N.C.

Colyer Woolston, a senior with a passion for the natural sciences, had an opportunity to share his interest in paleontology recently when he mentored John Musante, a first grade student at Clinton Elementary School.

Associate Professor of Biology Mike McCormick presented at a meeting of the Dark Energy Biosphere Institute held at the University of Southern California, April 9-11. McCormick discussed the results of a high-resolution survey of the microbial communities and geochemistry throughout the water column and sediments of Green Lake in Fayetteville, N.Y.

Students in "Religion, Art, and Visual Culture" (RELST/ARTHT 375) spent two days exploring art museums in New York City. The class visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Rubin Museum of Art.
