The Levitt Center kicked off its first ever Social Innovation Fellows Program during the second week of Hamilton’s spring break.  The program was designed and run by Anke Wessels, executive director of the Center of Transformative Action, a non-profit affiliated with Cornell University.  Her course, “Social Innovators and Entrepreneurship,” was selected by the Ashoka Foundation as one of the 10 best social entrepreneurship courses in the country in 2011. The Levitt program was a weeklong intensive program designed to be a condensed version of Wessel’s award-winning course.

Former U.S. Ambassador Prudence Bushnell will give a lecture titled “The Rwanda Genocide: An After Action Review 20 Years Later,” on Wednesday, April 2, at 7:30 p.m., in the Bradford Auditorium, KJ. The lecture is free and open to the public and is sponsored by the Arthur Levitt Public Affairs Center.

Nathaniel Livingston ’14 and Alyson Raynor ’14, candidates for May graduation from Hamilton, have been awarded prestigious Thomas J. Watson Fellowships for 2014-15. Livingston’s project is titled “Performing Culture: Contemporary Expressions of Oral and Musical Traditions,” and  Raynor’s is “The Path of Rehabilitation and Reintegration: Exploring the Lives of Traumatic Brain Injury Survivors.”

A collection of intaglio prints by Professors of Art Bruce Muirhead and William Salzillo, along with Amy Buchholz ’80 and Jake Muirhead ’86 – the Atelier Four – will be on display April 4-29 at The Ink Shop Printmaking Center in Ithaca, N.Y.

An article by Assistant Professor of Philosophy Russell Marcus was published in the philosophy of mathematics journal Philosophia Mathematica. In “How Not to Enhance the Indispensability Argument,” he presented considerations against the new enhanced or explanatory version of the indispensability argument.

Elisabeth MacColl ’16 has been named a Barry M. Goldwater Scholar for the 2014-15 academic year. She is among 283 scholars from across the U.S. to receive the Goldwater, the premier national undergraduate award in the fields of mathematics, the natural sciences and engineering.

Students in Hamilton’s International Students Association (ISA) traveled to New York City on March 18. The trip included visits to the United Nations Headquarters and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Sam Bishop, a candidate for May graduation, has been awarded a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship (ETA) to Indonesia. He is an English major at Hamilton.

Refocusing the Lens: Pranlal K. Patel’s Photographs of Women at Work in Ahmedabad,” an exhibition at the Ruth and Elmer Wellin Museum of Art, closes on April 15. The exhibition is free and open to the public.

Thirteen Hamilton students are spending a week of their spring break taking a new course in social entrepreneurship.  Anke Wessels of Cornell University is leading the course that introduces participants to social entrepreneurs, innovators and visionaries – people who are coming up with new methods to resolve pressing social problems.
