  • Chaise LaDousa gave a paper, "Constriction of the Mother Tongue: School and Language Ideology in Northern India," at a conference hosted by the International Association for the Integrational Study of Language and Communication. The conference took place in Cape Town, South Africa, in December. Conference participants hailed from Abu Dhabi, Australia, Canada, China, Denmark, Germany, Malawi, Malaysia, Mozambique, Namibia, Netherlands, Poland, Reunion, Russia and South Africa.

  • The Corporation for National and Community Service named Hamilton as one of the colleges included on the President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll for exemplary service efforts and service to America's communities. Launched in 2006, the Community Service Honor Roll is the highest federal recognition a school can achieve for its commitment to service-learning and civic engagement.

  • Hamilton College built a 15-point halftime lead on great shooting and the visiting Continentals breezed to a 54-40 Liberty League win against Vassar College at the Athletics & Fitness Center on Feb. 7.

  • On January 11 through 15, Hamilton first-year Bonner Leaders, under the direction of the Levitt Center and accompanied by AmeriCorps VISTA Project Coordinator and Bonner Leader Program Coordinator Jordan Fischetti '08, took a service trip to San Juan, Puerto Rico. The purpose of the trip was to volunteer at various service sites in an area that was culturally distinct from where the group is based. The trip also offered participants an opportunity to bond as a unit so as to enhance their joint endeavors on return to campus. Students who made the trip were Stefanie Russell, Yoko O'Hara, Caroline Pantazis, Liam Ronan, Laura Gilson and Henry Edelson.

  • Northern Arizona University Professor David Schlosberg will give a lecture, "From Environmental Justice to Ecological Justice: Human Communities and Natural Systems," on Thursday, Feb. 12, at 7:30 p.m., in the Kennedy Auditorium in Hamilton College's Science Center. Sponsored by the Diversity and Social Justice Project as part of its Environmental Justice series, it is free and open to the public.
