An article by Derek Jones, the Irma M. and Robert D. Morris Professor of Economics, and co-authors Panu Kalmi of Aalto University School of Economics in Aalto, Finland, and Antti Kauhanen of the Research Institute of the Finnish Economy in Helsinki, was recently published in the International Journal of Production Economics.

People and events at Hamilton drew much interest from local media during 2010. Students and faculty were the subjects of several feature articles in local newspapers, and a number of public events on campus brought positive media attention to the College. Local stories about Hamilton in 2010, included:

Professor of History Shoshana Keller wrote the introductory essay to the most recent "Journal of Women's History" book forum, a discussion of Kumari Jayawardena's The Erasure of the Euro-Asian.

Ken Bart, Brian Collett and Phil Pearle (together with three coauthors from the University of Montana) published a paper in the American Journal of Physics in December (Vol. 78, pp. 1278-1289) titled "What Brown saw and you can too." In addition, they have launched a more detailed website. Bart is director of the Microscopy and Imaging Facility and Collett and Pearle are professors of physics.

Assistant Professor of Philosophy Russell Marcus presented his paper "The Explanatory Indispensability Argument" at the Eastern Division Meeting of the American Philosophical Association in Boston on Dec. 30.

Hamilton seniors Drew Christ and Theresa Allinger attended the Fall 2010 American Geophysical Union Meeting in December in San Francisco and presented posters highlighting their research.

Hamilton College attracted the media’s attention quite often this year in feature stories and news reports. Among the areas most often addressed by the media in covering Hamilton were topics related to the admission process.

The Hamilton College Town-Gown Fund celebrated its 10th anniversary by distributing a record $52,020 to eight local organizations.

WAMC/Northeast Public Radio in Albany will feature a reading by Associate Professor of History Chad Williams on Tuesday, Dec. 28, as part of the public radio station’s Academic Minute. The program airs each weekday at 7:37 a.m. and 3:56 p.m. at 90.3 FM in the Clinton.

A feature article by Professor of Cinema and New Media Studies Scott MacDonald has been published in the Winter, 2010 issue of Film Quarterly. In “Avant-Doc: Eight Intersections” MacDonald reflects on links between documentary and avant-garde filmmaking traditions.
