Before the semester ended Hamilton in France students had the chance to visit the U.S. Embassy and meet U.S. Consul for Western France and Hamilton in France alum, James P. Du Vernay ’03.

Associate Professor of Art History Susan Jarosi recently presented at the Christie’s Education Symposium 2019. The theme of the meeting was “Women Art Dealers: 1940-1990.”

“Waning Hours,” a watercolor on paper by Professor of Art Katharine Kuharic, is included in the Headlands Center for the Arts 2019 benefit auction. Advance online bidding via Artsy ends Wednesday, June 5, at 3 p.m.

One of the first African American students to earn a philosophy degree at Hamilton, Alfred Prettyman ’56 became a guiding figure in African American philosophy.

Professor of French and Francophone Studies Cheryl Morgan recently presented a talk at a conference on “The 19th Century in 2019: Mapping Women’s Writing in the Long Nineteenth Century.”

In his address at Hamilton’s commencement, Freeman Hrabowski, president of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, advised graduates to “keep asking the hard questions and keep thinking of things we’ve not thought about – about social justice and inequality and seeking the truth.”

“He is the type of student that comes along very rarely in a professor’s career, someone who, in a quiet way, demonstrates exactly what I hold to be ‘the highest ideals of the College.’”

Past and future Hamilton Adirondack Program members and Janelle Schwartz, program founder and general director, participated in Adirondack Day in Albany. The program, designed to educate legislators and their staffs about the economic, education, and social issues and energy in the Park, was held on May 13.

The respiratory disease center at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston seems to be a meeting point for Hamilton alumni, as Deb Gakpo ’19 is the third alumna to take a job there.

Doug Ambrose, the Carolyn and David M. Ellis ’38 Distinguished Teaching Professor of History, recently led a tour of an exhibition at the Fenimore Art Museum in Cooperstown, N.Y.
