We follow the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines for COVID-19. Specific links can be found on the Health Center webpage.  We also think this guidance works when managing influenza and other fever-related illnesses.

Isolate in Place

  • You are to isolate in place in your assigned campus residence
  • You should avoid close contact with anyone outside of your room
  • You should not attend class, athletics, work, or social activities
  • If you are immunocompromised or have a chronic medical condition that may place you at higher risk for complications, please contact the Student Health Center at 315-859-4111 to review your symptoms and management strategies

Duration of Isolation

  • You must isolate for at least five days per the CDC guidelines
  • Day zero is the date that you tested positive or the first day of your symptoms
  • On day six, you may leave isolation and resume your normal day-to-day activities if your symptoms have improved and you are fever-free for at least 24 hours without taking medication to control it
  • You are expected to wear a mask around others for a full 10 days after you test positive
  • You may leave to take solitary walks on campus as long as you remain masked and avoid close contact with others.

Grab-N-Go Meals

  • You may mask up and pick up Grab-N-Go meals for yourself
  • You may also have a friend pick up food for you and leave it at your door
  • If you have not been provided a reusable To-Go container, you should reach out to Lori Barone: lbarone@parkhurstdining.com

Symptom Management

  • Make sure to manage good self-care, especially when you are sick
  • Do not take any medication to which you have a known allergy
  • Use over-the-counter analgesics per the package instructions for symptoms of fever, sore throat, and body aches unless you are allergic
  • Over-the-counter cough syrup may be used if it has been helpful to you in the past
  • Push fluids for hydration
  • Get extra rest to help your body heal
  • Sneeze, blow your nose, or cough into a disposable tissue, and discard the tissue immediately into a waste bin.  Then make sure to wash your hands with warm soapy water or use hand sanitizer if you do not have access to a sink.

Roommate Strategies

  • Try to keep at least 6 feet of separation between yourself and your roommates
  • Open the window, weather permitting
  • Please work to communicate with each other to respect each other’s needs
