The Richard A. Atkins Book Fund

In June 1990, the family of Richard A. Atkins, Class of 1929, established this book fund with gifts made in his memory, and enhanced by a provision in his Will.
As a student, Richard Atkins was a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon, and graduated Phi Beta Kappa and with honors. He continued his higher education after Hamilton, obtaining an A.M. degree in government from Harvard in 1933, an M.S. degree in public administration from Syracuse University, and a Ph.D. in municipal government in 1951. Mr. Atkins served in the U.S. Army as a Lieutenant until 1946, and in 1961 he joined the State of New York Office for Local Government. He enjoyed a successful career in the public sector, serving as deputy commissioner and as a policy analyst for the Senate Task Force on Critical Problems.
