Teaching & Learning Incubator
The R&ID team’s librarians and instructional designers welcome opportunities to collaborate with faculty on the development of new, early-stage ideas for projects to enhance teaching and student learning.
These partnerships are designed to help faculty implement ideas that can be applied to multiple courses spanning academic years or lead to the creation of student-focused, curricular activities that take place beyond the classroom.
Incubator projects are typically broader in scope and duration than R&ID’s standard support for individual course assignments (though we welcome opportunities to partner with you on these as well).
How We Can Help
We partner with faculty throughout the lifecycle of a project—from early brainstorming to implementation and sharing with the broader community. Our team offers support to help develop, resource, and realize innovative teaching and learning initiatives.
- Brainstorming and concept development
- Identification of print and multimedia resources
- Selection of hardware, software and equipment
- Seed money for media, supplies, and equipment
- Event hosting and publicity
Initiate a Project

Once you have made contact, we will also be requesting a brief (one page) proposal to help us better understand your objectives and put together a team for an initial meeting. Please include the following in your proposal:
- Project description (50-100 words)
- Benefit to students
- Possible learning outcomes
- Relationship to current or future courses
- Project timeline
- Potential collaborators (other faculty, departments, academic units)
- Current challenges to the project’s implementation
Some Collaborations
Below are some examples of past collaborations between faculty and the R&ID team.
Poetry and Pastries
Assistant Professor of Arabic Rama Alhabian joined with R&ID for the inaugural Poetry & Pastries, an evening of multilingual poetry in Burke Library’s All Night Reading Room. This now annual event showcases students reciting poems in non-English languages, featuring proficiency levels from first-semester language acquisition to native speakers as well as original compositions. This collaboration has grown to include other GRIA faculty members and Language Center staff on the planning committee.
Photo Magazine Teaching Collection
Assistant Professor of Art History Nadya Bair collaborated with R&ID on the curation of a study collection of 20th century photo magazines to provide students with the ability to engage with print media for multiple courses. The library acquired more than forty print issues of Ebony, Holiday, Jet, Look, Picture Post, and Vogue published between 1940 and 1969.
