Tutor Hiring
Interested in Working as a Writing Tutor?
Each Spring, we hire writing tutors for the following academic year.
Hamilton’s writing tutors support students as they work to articulate clear, thoughtful, and organized arguments. The tutor’s job is to create a collaborative learning environment where students can grow their skills and confidence in writing while learning to retain their own voice in their academic work.
We seek students from all backgrounds and majors, and we encourage applications from those who can read and discuss papers in multiple languages.
Tutors must demonstrate the following qualities:
- Outstanding critical thinking and writing skills: must be able to write clearly and to work collaboratively with peers to identify and prioritize areas of focus for conferences
- Exceptional listening and communication skills: must be able to provide clear, effective feedback both verbally and in writing and to encourage dialogue with students about their work
- Integrity, maturity, and strong interpersonal skills: must treat others with compassion and respect and be able to work independently
Application Process
Submit applications via Handshake. You will need to upload a short statement of interest, current resume, two samples of your best academic writing, and the names of two faculty members who can speak to your fit for the position. Faculty do not need to submit a letter of recommendation. We will contact you if selected for an interview.
