Visiting Associate Professor of Religious Studies S. Brent Plate recently published Key Terms in Material Religion, his eighth edited book. The volume includes 37 short essays on key terms that are shaping the rapidly growing field of material religion.

Alan Cafruny, the Henry Platt Bristol Professor of International Relations, presented “The Future of the Economic and Monetary Union” in a graduate seminar on Dec. 4 at King’s College London.

The Banquet of Donny & Ari: Scenes from the Opera, by Professor of English and Creative Writing Naomi Guttman, was named the winner of the CNY Book Award in Poetry for 2015. The announcement was made on Dec. 3 in Syracuse, N.Y., at the CNY Book Awards reception.

Joyce M. Barry, visiting assistant professor of women’s studies, attended the UN COP21 Climate Change summit at Le Bourget convention center in Paris on Dec 4. Barry participated in a women and gender constituency conversation that explored the ways in which gender equality and women’s human rights are fundamental to combating global climate change.

A paper co-authored by Visiting Assistant Professor of Philosophy Douglas Edwards was published in The Journal of Philosophy. “From Truth Pluralism to Ontological Pluralism and Back” was written with A.J. Cotnoir of the University of St. Andrews and focused on connections between ontological pluralism and truth pluralism.

Ann Owen, the Henry Platt Bristol Professor of Economics, directed a national mentoring workshop for female economists last month in New Orleans. The workshop, sponsored by the American Economic Association, was designed for female economists working toward tenure at institutions that do not offer a Ph.D. in economics.

Visiting Assistant Professor of Classics Anne Feltovich examined the treatment of friendship between women in male-authored classical literature in an article titled “In Defense of Myrrhina: Friendship Between Women in Plautus’ Casina,” published in the fall issue of the journal Helios.

Tu le diras à ma mère, the French version of Tell This to My Mother by Professor of French Joseph Mwantuali, was published in Paris last week by Présence Africaine, a prestigious publishing house in the francophone African world.

Professor of Comparative Literature Nancy Sorkin Rabinowitz participated in a panel discussion on “Prison and the Academy” at Princeton University. The panel addressed the question, “What is the ‘value’ of prison education?”

Assistant Professor of Religious Studies Seth Schermerhorn participated in national conferences in Denver and Atlanta where he presented papers about different aspects of Tohono O’odham pilgrimages to Magdalena.
