Course Description:

This course invites first-year students to develop their academic voice through discussion, collaboration, and experience. Through the writing process, students will cultivate a command of academic communication centered around three core skillsets: comprehension of rhetorical strategies, defensible argument development, and analysis of genre features. Students will explore the liberal arts while writing across linguistic boundaries–different languages, dialects, and disciplines. Course discussions will cover topics such as voice, collaborative writing, generative AI, and hypocrisy in academic communication. Writing will be inter-disciplinary and emphasize reflection, research, analysis, and revision as features of effective writing.
